Who We Are

For more than 40 years, Filmakers Library has been a leading source of outstanding films for the education, library, and non-theatrical markets. Now, as an imprint of award-winning online publisher Alexander Street Press, Filmakers Library is able to offer online streaming access to most of our titles, ensuring that our films receive the greatest possible exposure and accessibility through the most flexible delivery platforms.

Additionally, the multidisciplinary Filmakers Library archive is now available as Filmakers Library Online, a comprehensive resource of educationally-focused streaming video available 24/7 to faculty and students at subscribing institutions worldwide—whenever they want, wherever they are. Learn more here or request 30-day trial access to Filmakers Library Online by emailing sales@alexanderstreet.com.

We market and promote our films throughout the world by direct mail, print advertising, exhibitions at education and library conferences, and online marketing initiatives. With the resources of Alexander Street Press, we now distribute our films through a network of regional sales representatives and distribution partners who make sales calls and visits to school systems and major buyers in more than 40 countries across the globe. Filmakers Library titles are also promoted at educational and library conferences throughout the year.

Open communication, transparency, and a sincere passion to distribute films we believe in are among our core values—values that guide our working relationships with the hundreds of filmmakers and producers who have found a home at Filmakers Library.

Distribution Services

Catalog Listing: Our yearly catalog containing information, accolades, and review information on our films is mailed to over 10,000 educational and institutional film buyers. Additionally, we create and distribute subject-specific brochures throughout the calendar year that target faculty and library buyers in fields such as Anthropology, Globalization, Multiculturalism, Women's Studies, Psychology, and Social Issues.

Direct Mail Flyers: Filmakers Library produces mailing pieces on selected titles for direct mail campaigns targeted to special-interest groups. We acquire mailing lists to supplement our own extensive in-house contacts.

Conferences: New releases and select backlist titles are promoted at relevant education and library conferences. At such events, our representatives are present at an exhibition booth with demos, brochures, and copies of appropriate films.

Press and Publicity: We arrange for timely press coverage and copies for review to all applicable publications. We also prepare press releases to solicit additional press exposure when appropriate.
