The film Men in Danger wins 2008 Prix Europa AwardWe are delighted to announce one of our new films,
Men in Danger: Environmental Effects on Fertility, has been named Best Current Affairs Program by the prestigious Prix Europa. The film concerns sperm production in humans which has suffered a spectacular drop, by 50% in 50 years. In addition, testicular cancers and congenital malformation of male reproductive organs are on the rise. This disturbing documentary looks at findings that point to pollutants as the cause of endocrinal changes in the male reproductive system.

National Media Market in KentuckyWe attended the National Media Market in blue grass country, where the grass is, if not blue, at least very very plush and green. We were busy showing our new releases to the librarians and media specialists who attended and getting their reactions to each. It was very gratifying; we’ve never had a better response, all the screens busy and people were even viewing on their personal laptops. The most popular titles are:

Filmakers Library Attends the Flaherty Film SeminarFounders Sue Oscar and Linda Gottesman took off a week in June to join the Flaherty Film Seminar at Colgate University, in Hamilton, New York. The subject was films on Migration, curated by Chi-hui-Yang, Director of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.
Filmmakers came from all over the world, including a contingent of Russians with their translator. In addition to joining in discussions well into the night, we were privileged to see films by Iranian filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi, who was not granted a visa by the US government to come to represent his films. The highlight of the week was to meet him by web cast (oh, technology). There he was on the screen, bigger than life, interpreter at his side, answering questions from seminar participants, and finally smiling to the standing ovation from the auditorium at Hamilton, NY.
