This comprehensive film is a cultural guide through the maze of menopause for both sexes. Over the last thirty years, perfecting the male body and sustaining the male libido has become a societal preoccupation. Now, after hearing so much about estrogen, the general public hears a lot more about testosterone. Men are lining up for refueling in hopes it will keep them virile and forever masculine. Once considered immune from the cultural effects of aging, men are now the fastest growing consumers of plastic surgeries and beauty products. Male menopause is now called "andropause" and drug companies are developing and cashing in on new products, the most famous of which is Viagra which hit the market in 1998.

It's a parallel story to the wonders of estrogen replacement for women, which promised to keep them "feminine forever" back in the 1960's. Prof. Susan Brodo, University of Kentucky, discusses the sociological trends of masculinity and femininity from the end of World War II to the present. Helen Gurley Brown, the publisher of Cosmopolitan, reflects on her magazine's emphasis on female sexuality in the 1950's and 1960's and her realization in the '70's that women were interested in seeing the beautiful bodies of men. This is a revealing and sometimes humorous look at how our society views aging and its effect on sexuality.

"Highly Recommended. The film includes a great deal of interesting historical information about awareness and treatment of female menopause, as well as documenting the newer concept of male menopause or andropause." Library Journal
