This important film illuminates the issues surrounding the use of hydrogen instead of oil for energy. For over a century the world has lived on cheap oil. In 2003 Saudi Arabia announced that its oil production would be decreasing in the future due to depleted supplies. Prof. Kenneth Deffeyes, author of Hubbard's Peak, believes that the world's oil reserves will be depleted in forty years. Extreme price fluctuations tend to destabilize the world politically. A geologist working for the Iranian State Oil Company, says that as a result of oil shortages "...we are about to face wars and terrorism."

Jeremy Rifkin, author of The Hydrogen Economy, insists that the world must shift to a sustainable hydrogen economy. "When you produce hydrogen with renewable energy sources you will have a totally sustainable energy system; it will free us from oil dependency and pollution." In accord with Rifkin¹s advice, Shell Oil and Daimler Chrysler are participating in Icelandic New Energy, which will lead Iceland into the new era. Hydrogen made from clean geothermal energy sources will make Iceland the world's first real hydrogen economy. As Rifkin says, "The hydrogen revolution is not Utopian; it is about survival..."

"Highly Recommended. The Hydrogen Revolution is fascinating, and an important film for students to watch since their generation will likely be the ones to resolve the oil crisis." Dr. Brad Eden, University Libraries, University of Nevada Las Vegas for EMRO
