There are more than 15 million refugees scattered around the world, the majority of whom are women and young girls. This film presents portraits of three such refugees who must cope with being uprooted.

Mai-Lien, a 13-year-old Vietnamese travelled with her 10-year-old brother to a camp in Malaysia. Alone, without her parents, she is tragically vulnerable. Pheria is the 40-year-old mother of four, living in a camp in Zambia. Her husband vanished during the civil war in Mozambique, where she too was abused. She wonders whether she will ever be able to start a new life. Juana, a 28-year-old Salvadorean is living a precarious existence in Costa Rica. The mother of three and pregnant, she has been denied entrance to a more welcoming country. Who will help these women?
