The image of Southern women has vacillated between Daisy May, the simple country girl, and Scarlett O'Hara, the feisty belle. This lively film challenges such stereotypes by showing us a wide range of Southern women who do not conform to either image.

The women interviewed range from single mothers to writers and artists to the first female horseracing commissioner. In candid interviews, these women discuss the marriage myth - that marrying a man will make one's life complete. They treat with humor and sadness the extent to which women endure pain for the sake of beauty. Some women are "off" men and into careers, while some sorority sisters express the belief that true happiness comes from finding someone to love.

This film proves that Southern women are no different from their sisters, North, East and West. They just have to overcome people's preconceptions.

"A powerful collage which shows women who are challenging the myth that marriage and family are the ultimate purpose of womanhood." - School Library Journal
"The producer is a free spirited 'third wave' feminist who examines...Southern womanhood in a light-hearted way that avoids harsh political debate." - Herald Leader
