Traditional opinion holds that it is mothers who have the greatest impact on their daughter's lives. This film documents just how much fathers can matter. It looks at the special bond between them and how it can affect daughters for better or for worse.

In this film we meet several women whose relationships to their fathers have been pivotal in their lives. Inspired by the unconditional love she received from her father, photographer Mariana Cook explored other father-daughter relationships in a series of revealing portraits that were later published.

Victoria Segunda, author of Women and Their Fathers, believes that fathers can influence a woman's career path and often determine her choice of men. She cites a study at Harvard that links achievement in women with fathers who treated them as substitute sons. But distant dads can damage their daughters' self esteem. She shows the connection between anorexic women and unresponsive fathers. This film makes an interesting program with Lost Boys.
