Written and directed by Kim Izzo and Cere Marsh
Both informative and entertaining, this colorful documentary chronicles the journey of an attractive young woman from the pain of bulimia to the joy of self acceptance. Katherine Bruce Laing had been obsessed by her weight since adolescence. She spent ten self loathing years seeking help.for an eating disorder that she hid from her family and friends.
She describes the onset of the illness with the frightening compulsion to overeat and retch After years of abuse, her metabolism was not functioning properly and her weight seesawed. She finally found a competent psychiatrist, but her real cure came from an unexpected source. She joined a belly dancing class and began to appreciate well-rounded female forms. Awkward at first, she gradually threw off her inhibitions. Her finally triumph was to dance exhuberantly in a belly dancing performance attended by her parents and friends.
All women will relate to the concern to have a perfect body. This film may put such concerns into proper perspective.
