CECOM, Riviere-des-Prairies Hospital
This
film was produced to show teachers and parents the important role they
must play in meeting children's needs during a divorce. It is normal for
children to have a negative reaction during the stress of divorce, with
each age group exhibiting different behavior. Special attention at this
time will help them avoid serious psychological problems later.
The vignettes in this film show some typical behavior that may manifest in children when their parents are in the throes of divorce. Bob and Lynda have been married for 17 years and have three children, ages 15, 9, and 5. We see how pre-school age children try to deny the separation and indulge in aggressive behavior. School-age children become concerned with what is going on at home and neglect their school work. In contrast, teenagers count on friends and spend much time away from home.
