Incest: The Family Secret

Produced by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

In this shockingly frank program we hear adult women tell of the childhood experiences that so traumatized their later years. We learn the behavior patterns that emerge in adolescence, when these girls often become runaways, drug addicts and prostitutes.

The program also explores the role of the mother in an incestuous family. Some mothers are unaware of what is happening, but others comply out of fear or dependency.

Especially valuable to professionals is the testimony of a formerly abusive father who underwent psychiatric treatment. He recalls with startling clarity his refusal to acknowledge his daughter's anguish. Psychologists and other professionals contribute their perspective.
