Page Fright

Inside the World of The Learning Disabled

Produced by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

A surprising number of Americans have difficulty reading simple words. Many of them have a learning disability. Page Fright is their story. Patricia Hatt took fifteen years to complete her B.A., one word at a time. Patricia has a learning disability. She takes us into her world, where difficulty with reading denies her and many others access into a life we take for granted.

The frustration for children with L.D. is painfully evident as we hear their stories of shame and embarrassment at the blackboard, in the playground and on the street. Kevin Armstrong is a learning disabled adult who teaches kids with L.D. One of his pupils, Terry, was able finally to obtain a driver's license despite initially having trouble with road signs.

The learning disabled suffer not only in the classroom and library but in everyday life. Filling out deposit slips, reading price tags, following directions -"everywhere there's little bits of reading." This film will bring hope to the learning disabled and understanding of their difficulties and triumphs.
