This
highly charged documentary examines the causes and consequences of rape, one
of the fastest growing crimes in America. It includes an emotional confrontation
between rapists and victims of rape (though not by these particular men). The
women reveal the depth of the trauma they sustained. The men, who are in therapy
at the Washington State Hospital, seem surprised at the deep emotional wounds
that the women experienced. The documentary provides an understanding of the
thought processes and behavior patterns of violent sex offenders.
The program implies that the complex issue of rape is inextricably bound to the value our society places on power, status and the role of women. Suggested audience: psychology, sociology, counseling, rape crisis centers, hospitals, women's groups.
