Hosted by Rhea Perlman Produced by Dave Davis for KCTS/TV
Nearly
80 percent of mothers with pre-school age children are now in the work force.
Yet, as this film shows, quality child care during these critical years is either
unavailable or too expensive. Through the eyes of parents, providers, children
and experts, this film examines the current child-care crisis. It shows that
child care costs are generally the second highest expense of the typical American
family, just below housing. Yet child-care providers earn so little that turnover
is a staggering 40 percent a year.
The film travels across the country showcasing model programs. Ranging from corporate on-site care to programs to assist welfare parents, we see that innovative solutions to the child-care dilemma are available. -
